Antoine Bracq, Managing Director, Investments, Lighthouse Canton, joined Dan Murphy on CNBC Access Middle East for an insightful discussion on current market dynamics and what investors should watch for in 2025.
The S&P has been trading at 20x earnings and NASDAQ at 33x, equities are only yielding around 4% in earnings, close to the same return as cash. Recent US retail sales and job data also indicate a deceleration in the US economy, coupled with high valuations it is reminiscent of the dot-com era. Citing Sam Altman’s recent comments that investors may be overexcited about AI, Antoine also highlighted a recent MIT report that said only 5% of US companies piloting Gen AI are seeing positive ROI, despite millions in investment. As such, investors are reassessing valuations in the tech space and a market correction of 10-20% isn’t off the table. The silver lining? Volatility remains cheap, offering smart hedging opportunities through put spreads at less than 3% cost.
